The Renegade Salesperson Can Ruin Your Company

Author: Lance Winslow

All companies need sales people and those who are good in sales indeed have their pick of the best companies to work for. But beware if you run a company with a large sales force because salespeople are generally very independent folks and often step over the line if not well managed or trained. It is therefore so very important to have a robust training program to insure that your sales teams are toeing the line. This is not to say that you want to completely micro-manage the sales team, but there needs to be set forth some workable borders to what is and what is not acceptable in your company.

These guidelines for your sales program must be part of your training to re-enforce the standards so that there are no hard feelings. Sales people need to feel as if they have freedom, but not so much that their egos start allowing them to call the shots to your sales program. A good sales training program will insure that hard feelings do not occur and that the sales teams work in unison with the companies sales goals.

Renegade sales people can be dangerous because they may only care about their sales and commissions and will do anything to meet their personal goals, often at the expense of manipulating buyers, misrepresentation of your products and services and then leave for another company, while you have to clean up all the debris in their wake. Consider all this in 2006.
