Is Pure Democracy Sustainable?

Author: Lance Winslow

Many believe that a Democracy is a fully safe and sustainable government. In human civilizations we often choose a Democracy over other forms of government. It is often better for the people, yet there are critical flaws in Democracy in its un-modified state. The problem is that when the people vote for everything they vote for free stuff, until at some point the civilization crumbles as there is no way to sustain all the desires of the masses, who fail to contribute.

Democracy in its purest form is dangerous and leads a nation to socialism, which is a downhill slide. A Democratic Republic is a better plan of all the historical forms of government for the people, as it is sustainable; that is if and only if it remains true to its core and cause. Seldom has this been done long term (500 years). Many make a very good comment and truth when they state such things as;

Perhaps then this is why other leaders fear democracy because it empowers people to build a better life for themselves and have education and original thoughts and ideas.

The Dictators and close nit leaders of other forms of government do indeed fear power by the people, as it becomes their loss of control, wealth and whatever it is they have going there for their own personal gain. Yet this is a human desire and perhaps the real evil is in the species itself? One could also say that a worse evil is those who allow it to occur, those who take the easy road, refusing to stand for what is right, thus they die on their knees and do so in impoverished conditions void of FREEDOM and LIBERTY!

We must be careful to duplicate a system of government that is more of a Democratic Republic rather than a pure Democracy if we hope to insure its continued success. The leadership elected must above all else commit them selves to do the right thing, above and beyond the peanut gallery, political polls and mass media hysteria causing the public opinion to sway in the wind. We must think on this in 2006.
