Acne Blemish Control-Making It Work

Author: Paul E. Web

Acne blemish control is a common problem shared by many teens and adults. Even with the many new acne treatments available today, thousands still struggle to control their acne on a daily basis. Many of whom are still clueless on how to properly fight acne breakout.

The road to clear and healthy skin requires knowledge and dedication. To become better informed on acne blemish control, it is essential to seek advice from a dermatologist. Professional guidance regarding your skin type and severity of your acne will determine your acne treatment routine.

Many of the acne products available today are component based, consisting of several individual products to treat specific conditions that cause acne breakouts. The most common contributors to acne blemishes are oily skin, clogged pores and bacteria which are inter-related.

Oily skin is the result of different factors that cause the sebaceous gland to produce a larger than normal amount of sebum (oil). Combined with the natural shedding of dead skin cells, the pore becomes clogged and bacteria forms. As more sebum is produced and with nowhere to go, an acne lesion rises to the surface.

New acne medications are designed to treat each individual factor causing the acne. An face wash with either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid is used to clean the surface of the skin. Benzoyl peroxide primarily targets surface bacteria while salicylic acid reduces shedding of skin cells inside the follicle to reduce clogging of the pore.

The next step to reducing blemishes is to apply a toner or exfoliator, usually a gel or cream that is either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid based. Designed to lessen surface oil and/or removing dead skin cells, this one component is essential to acne blemish control.

The final step in acne blemish control is the application of a lotion. Again the lotion may also contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Most lotions are oil free and are designed to heal inflammation and prevent future acne breakouts.

The acne medicines in these kits are targeted, as several conditions cause acne to form. Years ago no acne treatments were available targeting these individual factors. With the advance of science, we are now fortunate to have acne products to treat these various conditions.

It is essential that the component based acne solutions be followed and each acne product be used as directed. Many acne suffers make the mistake of utilizing only one or two of the components, which ends in poor results.

Keep in mind that today's newer acne treatments focus on several factors the contribute to acne. Each product is designed to address a specific cause of acne. When these acne medications are combined and used as directed, you can look forward to clear and healthy skin.

All too often, we are used to having immediate results. With the internet, many of our questions are answered within seconds. Not true with acne, this skin condition has been around for years and has affected millions of people and will continue to do so. But with proper knowledge we can make acne blemish control really work.

There are no short cuts when it comes to acne blemish control, and a higher degree of success can be achieved by giving these acne medications a chance to work and above all being dedicated to using the products as directed.
